Corrugated: a new revolution for the meat supply chain?

It turns out that corrugated board is actually the number one packaging for meat, just as it is for fruit and vegetables.

Yet both categories use different corrugated solutions. Until recently, that is. Dawn Meats, a major beef and lamb exporter from Ireland, looked for a new packaging for their export into some 40 countries.


Requirements such as cost reduction, better pallet utilization and total elimination of the risk of damages were a turnkey solution for their three production sites in Ireland.

The answer was found in replacing the original manually formed tray and lid by an adaptation of the common fruit and vegetable tray. The optimized dimensions are more efficient in palletizing and also the machine forming is saving labor time- and costs and the well-known strength of these trays secures the meat perfectly through the damp and cold supply chain down to the point of sale.
